The Laboratory Animal Unit at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University provides animal housing and research support for studies involving mice and rats under internationally recognized oversight.

The Unit supports preclinical studies with animal housing, research laboratories, and controlled environments designed for mice and rats.

The Unit accepts projects from researchers within and outside the Faculty. Every project must receive IACUC approval before animal work begins.

The committee meets every month to review animal use proposals.
Personnel learn about laboratory animal allergies, personal hygiene, biosafety, and emergency procedures.
Personnel shower, change into facility clothing, and use the required personal protective equipment.
Facilities



Four animal rooms, four laboratories, procedure rooms, support areas, and reception are separated by interlocks and a clean corridor.
Offices, common and meeting rooms, storage and control rooms, laundry facilities, and staff areas.
A two-storey building with an interstitial space for building systems and maintenance.
Environmental Controls
Air circulates through high-efficiency HEPA filters, and research animals receive reverse osmosis water.
Training
Occupational Health and Safety training covers the risks associated with working in a laboratory animal research facility.
Causes and risk factors, preventive measures, and early recognition of allergic reactions.
Facility practices, appropriate PPE, and safe disposal of sharps and biological waste.
Evacuation routes, emergency contacts, and annual drills conducted with the main building.
Operating Standards
The Unit received its first AAALAC International accreditation in 2022 and was successfully reaccredited in 2025 following the three-year evaluation cycle.
